Jaffna International Airport
Jaffna International Airport (VCCJ / JAF), at Kankesanturai near Palaly, is the primary gateway to northern Sri Lanka. With a 1,400 × 30 m runway and published HJ (daylight) airport services, VCCJ can support selected business, private and other approved movements when planned in advance. Please note. VCCJ is a VFR aerodrome operating during HJ (daylight) hours with a 1,400 × 30 m runway. Non-scheduled and private flights strictly require PPR, and international landings require at least 48 hours' prior notice. Jet A-1 availability is limited to a single 15,000-litre refueller. SEAS confirms aircraft acceptance, PPR, slots, handling, CIQ, fuel and return-fuel planning for each flight. Operational details may change by NOTAM or operational instruction.
What SEAS coordinates
Operational Services at VCCJ
01 · Slots, PPR & acceptance
Mandatory PPR, managed end to end
Prior Permission Required (PPR) is mandatory for non-scheduled and private flights under the Sri Lanka eAIP. Slot requests are submitted to the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). SEAS manages the PPR application, slot requests, airport acceptance and any additional operational approvals for the specific aircraft and movement.
02 · Ground handling
HJ, strictly on prior request
Ground handling is published HJ and available strictly on prior request, not as an on-demand service. SEAS coordinates the approved handling, CIQ, marshalling, parking and turnaround as your local representative. All aircraft use the airport marshalling service, with parking allocated by Jaffna Tower (nose-in / taxi-out). Confirm handling before finalising permits and flight planning.
03 · Fuel & technical
Single 15,000 L refueller
Jet A-1 is available during HJ fuelling hours through a single 15,000-litre refueller. The eAIP recommends prior fuel coordination or carrying return fuel where feasible. AVGAS 100LL is not confirmed in the published eAIP. Uplift quantity, timing and return-fuel strategy must be verified before operation.
04 · Permits & regulatory
Colombo FIR + PPR together
SEAS coordinates the required Sri Lankan overflight and landing permissions for operations within the Colombo FIR, alongside the mandatory PPR, slot approvals, ground handling and airport arrangements — as one coordinated request.
